This is NOT a Game
Why can’t all game boxes be the same size? Short answer: I don’t know. We’re all just going to have to let it go.
And when I say, let it go, I don’t just mean let go of your feelings around this ridiculous reality, I mean let go of the box. Hey, if game companies aren’t going to make our lives easier by deciding on one set of dimensions for all game boxes, then we have to take matters into our own hands.
There are many options for game storage. There are plastic boxes and pouches made specifically to fit even the largest game boards. Admittedly, there is good reason to us hold on to some boxes — vintage or collectors editions can be worth something among collectors and eBay hunters. However, when the box does not meet this criteria, it might be worth prioritizing your ability to find and enjoy the games without them falling on you when you pull them from the shelf.
First, take the top of the box and cut out the name of the game and the picture so that you have something showing through the clear plastic pouch or container. Make sure you have all the pieces together in small baggies and the cards rubber banded. Don’t forget the instructions! (Unless you’re one of those people who chucks the rules and make up your own. That can be just as fun!)
Last step: PLAY! While staring at our screens, it’s easy to forget that we have loads of old fashioned fun in our board game closet. And with your new storage system, you don’t have to worry about them all falling on you!
