Systematic

How many of us have walked through all those staged rooms at Ikea and thought, “If I just had this mail sorter I can’t pronounce, my entranceway would look exactly like this perfect little space!” As life-changing as these items may seem, it takes more to get organized than just purchasing a rolling cart of bins or a plastic thingy that separates pencils and markers.

Getting organizing and, maybe more importantly, staying organized, is not just about having the right organizing thingamabobs. It’s about having systems in place. A system needs active human participation to work as a sustainable organizing solution. It’s not just about having the mail sorter, it’s about getting everyone on board to use it in an agreed way that eliminates the clutter.

Sure, we’d all love to live in one of those staged Ikea rooms. But even those wonderful little pretend homes would turn to chaos if every person who walked through them didn’t agree on how to use the perfectly placed organizing items.
