What do I do with my old keys? This is a common issue. We all have old keys around the house. And if you’re like me and forget why you even walked in a room sometimes, it’s easy to understand why we forget which locks all these keys go to!

Set aside time to collect all of the mystery keys and test them to see if they go to any of the locks around your house. Don’t forget outdoor locks and lockboxes, which are usually the things that these stray keys go with. Maybe even ask a friend that may have given you a key to their home to give it a try. Once you partner any of these keys up, just put it back in the drawer and hope you remember what it goes to, right? NO! That was a test! Put each key on a ring with a label. and create one place — a bowl, a box, tray — where all keys live.

For keys that truly have no lock? The craftier folk can turn to Martha Stewart or any of the hundreds of projects on Pinterest that make use of old keys. For those who are not that artsy, like me, take them to a recycling center or research some organizations or schools that reuse them for charitable purposes.
