Am I a Hoarder?
Clients sometimes ask me during a consultation, “Am I a hoarder?” I’m only have one answer no matter how much stuff someone has: I’m not qualified to answer that. Why? Because hoarding doesn’t begin with the stuff. It begins with the mind.
I became a professional organizer for a combination of reasons. I love solving the puzzle of organizing, bringing calm to space, and being helpful. Before I did this as a business, I did it for friends and family. Sure, it’s physically and mentally taxing, but to me, it doesn’t feel like work.
But I’m not a therapist. And only a therapist is qualified to answer the question if you are seriously concerned about being a hoarder. There are online quizzes you can take to get you started, but if you really think you might have a problem, then it’s worth talking to someone who can help, not just to bring a sense of calm to your home, but to bring a sense of calm to your mind.
