Saying Goodbye
Goodbyes are tough. And for some, saying goodbye to things can be just as difficult as bidding farewell to items. Things aren’t just inanimate objects: they often represent plans we had or memories we hold dear.
I never tell my clients what items to part with because I do not have the connection needed in order to make those decisions. But if there’s any emotion around the decision to part with an item, I can help to make a client’s decision a bit easier. Sometimes a simple photograph of an item is enough to quell the emotions around parting with something.
Rather than focusing on the difficulty of saying goodbye, I encourage those who are doing the brave work of decluttering to also think about what they’re saying hello to: the living space they always envisioned.
